One Big Day more than weekend

The first day of Radio 1's One Big Weekend in Manchester was cancelled on health and safety grounds due to waterlogged ground, but day two went ahead.

Talking of cancellations, the first half of Radio 1's One Big Weekend festival in Manchester had to be cancelled on Saturday because of bad weather. The station announced on Saturday morning that: "Owing to the severe weather conditions of the last few days, BBC Radio 1 has taken the decision to cancel the first day of its One Big Weekend event. This decision was taken on health and safety grounds in conjunction with local council inspectors, after a site inspection earlier today.

Jason Carter, Executive Of Live Events added: "We've had to cancel the first day of our One Big Weekend event, as the site is just too waterlogged. This is a massive disappointment for us, and we would like to apologise to our listeners and to all those people who were due to come to Heaton Park today. We are, however, confident that tomorrow's event will go ahead as planned."

Carter's confidence proved correct because day two of the OBW event proceded as planned, with some of Saturday's acts duly rescheduled.
