The company’s “other” category, which includes merchandise, live performances and licensing revenue, jumped 81% to 73 billion yen ($453 million). Sony Group Corp President Hiroki Totoki notes that alongside streaming growth, the quarter’s music revenue gain was driven by “higher revenues from merchandising and live events”. Warner Music has reported its fiscal third quarter results for the period ended 30 Jun with total revenue reaching $1.554 billion. Revenue for the quarter is down 0.6% year-on-year but up 0.6% in constant currency. The company’s recorded music subscription streaming revenues rose 13.7% year-over-year at constant currency, adjusted for certain factors. “Our strong subscription streaming growth in Q3 was driven by the performance of our music and healthy industry trends”, says WMG CEO Robert Kyncl. While digital revenue showed growth, the company saw declines in physical sales, artist services and expanded-rights revenue. Warner Chappell Music, the group’s publishing division, experienced an 8.9% increase in revenue at constant currency. Overall, WMG’s net income grew to $141 million, up 14% compared to the prior year’s quarter.

HYBE has reported record quarterly revenue of 640.5 billion won ($465 million) for Q2 2024, a 3.1% year-on-year increase, despite a sharp 85.9% drop in net profit to 16.53 billion won ($12 million). Rammstein frontman Till Lindemann has filed a criminal complaint against German news outlet Der Spiegel over its reporting of sexual misconduct allegations from 2023. The allegations, which Lindemann denied, stemmed from claims by female fans of misconduct at pre-concert events. Though an official investigation was dropped in August 2023, Lindemann is now taking legal action. His complaint, filed with the Hamburg Public Prosecutor’s Office, alleges Der Spiegel’s coverage included falsified documents and attempted trial fraud. Lindemann’s lawyers at Schertz Bergmann state: “In so far as it has now been established that two affidavits were not actually rendered as submitted, this is a matter that must be clarified by the criminal prosecution authorities”.

Space Ibiza has been forced to rebrand its residency at Eden nightclub as “NOSPACE” following a trademark dispute. The Valencia commercial court annulled Space Ibiza founder Pepe Rosello’s rights to the brand name in favour of the Matutes family, owners of Fiesta Hotels & Resorts SL. Rosello, who founded the original Space Ibiza club in 1989 and had been running events at Eden using the brand, stated he “respects the ruling” but will appeal. Eden Ibiza says, “We believe it is crucial to launch NOSPACE to protect this vital part of the Ibiza clubbing scene”. The ruling marks the latest development in a long-running legal battle between Rosello and the Matutes family over management of the original Space nightclub, which closed in 2016 and is now Hï Ibiza under Matutes family ownership.

Former US President Donald Trump has claimed that Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis is treating rapper Young Thug “unfairly” in his ongoing criminal trial. During a live stream appearance with Adin Ross on 5 Aug, Trump referred to Young Thug as a “patriot”, stating, “I’ve heard he’s being treated very unfairly by [DA Willis], and I would tell her she’s gotta treat these patriots that are being all -it’s terrible. They’re going after them…He’s gotta be treated fairly”. Trump has his own history with Willis, who indicted him on sixteen Georgia statutes in August 2023 following a probe into the 2020 election results. That case is currently on hold pending an appeal, with the Georgia Court Of Appeals set to hear arguments on 5 Dec, after the November presidential election.

The 31 year old K-pop star, currently serving his mandatory military service as a social service agent, issued an apology saying, “I thought it was a short distance and didn’t realise that you can’t ride an electric scooter while intoxicated, so I violated the road traffic laws”. Big Hit Music, BTS’s record label, responded: “We deeply apologise for causing disappointment and concern to many due to the artist’s inappropriate behaviour. We will ensure that such incidents do not occur again in the future and will exercise greater caution”. SUGA is expected to complete his military service in June 2025.

Journey have cancelled their upcoming UK and Ireland tour due to “circumstances beyond the band’s control”, amid escalating internal strife. The 50th Anniversary Freedom Tour, set to begin on 30 Oct in Cardiff, would have been the band’s first performances in the UK and Ireland in a decade. The cancellation follows a lawsuit filed by keyboardist Jonathan Cain against guitarist Neal Schon in Delaware’s Chancery Court, alleging Schon “maxed out a $1 million credit card limit, exceeded hotel allowances and chartered private jets at the band’s expense”. Cain’s lawsuit noted, “The band’s actual onstage performance is, at the moment, one of the only aspects of the business that has not suffered”, a statement which would seem no longer to be the case.
