P2P usage rises again in June, says BigChampagne

Simultaneous users on P2P networks rose to 8.9 million in June, up 2.6% on May and 20.1% year on year, according to BigChampagne, which expects a summer dip.

The average number of simultaneous users on P2P networks rose again in Jun, or at least so say online stats firm BigChampagne. They say the number of global users reached 8.9 million, up 2.6% on the previous month, and up 20.1% on the same month last year. 75% of those P2P users are based in the states, where the increase in usage was pretty much the same of worldwide figures. Stats people now reckon they will see a slight decline in usage as the summer holidays kick in. That seasonal variation will make it hard to track whether last month's high profile MGM v Grokster Supreme Court ruling has had any effect on the number of people illegally sharing music on P2P networks.
