Peel among guest chart show hosts

Radio 1 is using a rotating line-up of presenters on the UK Top 40 until the revamped chart show launches in the New Year, with John Peel among them.

Radio 1 have confirmed John Peel will host an edition of the UK Top 40 as one of a series of guest presenters on the show. Mark Goodier left the programme after the chart’s fiftieth anniversary last month. Now a different Radio 1 presenter is filling in each week until the revamped chart show launches in the New Year.

Jo Whiley became the first woman to ever host the show when she filled in last week. Peel, known for championing music that would rarely appear in the Top 40, says he is looking forward to fronting the chart. "Some of my listeners found out I was doing this and I've had lots and lots of e-mails of encouragement."

Talking about the guest presenters Radio 1 told us: "It's been really good having a variety of our presenters fronting The Official UK Top 40 and we're really pleased that John is going to be doing it. Everyone's bringing their own individual style to the show and we're sure John will do so too."
