Well, it would appear, shockingly, that one Pete Doherty has been up to no good, on at least one count. Doherty has been stopped by police in Dundee city centre after he was found drinking in the street. A police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that three men were stopped by officers in the Nethergate area of Dundee city centre at around 8.45am. They had alcohol taken from them, which was disposed of. They were given a warning and were allowed on their way." A Babyshamble's spokesman did not deny the incident but added that Doherty was probably not aware of Dundee's ban on public drinking in the city centre.
Whilst in Dundee Doherty appeared on the city's Radio Tay and said: "It's just really exciting to be doing at last what we do best - the only thing we can do really - just play tunes." On the subject of Kate Moss he said: "A lot of people basically are obsessed with the missus and I don't know really ... she's just a bird from South London", thereby implying that he and Ms Moss are still together, for the time being at least.
That is something the tabloids would have disputed this weekend, as they exploded with the story of how Doherty had allegedly pulled a sixteen year old college student after the Babyshambles gig at The Brickyard in Carlisle. According to reports, he took the student, Natasha Ellis, off in the tour van and prompted a police hunt for the missing teenager. Friends of the sixteen year old told the Daily Star that she and Doherty had been all over each other, so all over each other, in fact, that the girls "didn't know where to look". They also alleged that Doherty had spent a great deal of time dissing Kate Moss, calling her a 'slut' and a 'dirty cokehead'. The girls said that their friend had then disappeared off in a Babyshambles van, and by the next day, her mother had called the police.
Of course, it may just be a story made up by those girls, who presumably could quite easily get away with making stuff up about someone whose unpredictable behaviour makes the news on a virtually daily basis. In any case, Natasha Ellis was home by the following evening, and Doherty's people have released a statement denying the story: "After the Babyshambles show in Carlisle on Tuesday night, a lot of fans tried getting on the bus, including the reported missing girl. The band, as they do every night, signed autographs and chatted with fans - this is the only connection Pete had with the girl. The bus was then cleared by the band's tour manager as it was time to leave. The girl tried staying on the bus, but was refused entry. She then hitched a lift with some other fans who were driving to the gig the following night in Greenock. The first the band heard that a girl was missing was when the police called the tour manager on Wednesday afternoon. The tour manager then approached a girl in the venue that fitted the police description and asked if she was the missing girl. She denied she was. After another call from the police the band and tour manger were sure she was the girl and took her to the security office at the venue where she was picked up by the police and her parents."
The bouncers also pitched in to deny the claims, saying "Pete didn't kiss anyone and no-one was invited backstage A couple of girls went on the coach, but Natasha Ellis was not one of them. The two girls on the coach were dropped off outside The Brickyard as the bus made its way back there from Devonshire Walk car park. When the bus was checked a dark-haired girl was found in the luggage hold under the bus and was kicked off."
And finally, in Doherty news, Kate Moss is rumoured to be planning an appearance on Parkinson shortly to talk about recent events. She was allegedly advised to do so by Naomi Campbell, who confessed to drug use on the chat show a few years back. A source told the Sunday Mirror at the weekend: "She's a very private person and is terrified about going on national television, but feels she doesn't have much choice. If she goes on and says 'I'm sorry, I'm hooked, I was wrong,' people will show her more respect."
Phew. I'm really tired now. Can I go back to bed?
