Peter Kay and Tony Christie take Amarillo to number one

Peter Kay and Tony Christie's Comic Relief re-release of 'Amarillo' goes straight to number one, while The Bravery's debut album enters the top ten at number five.

The Bravery will be popping the champagne corks after their debut album hit the UK charts at Number five last night (20

Mar). The Stereophonics beat them to the top spot with ’Language

Sex Violence Other’. The Bravery’s singer Sam Endicott told NME.com that the band were thrilled by the top ten placing:

“I talked to someone this morning who told me about it.

I was very pleased - I didn't really have any idea it would go so high. I think as all went well we should all go to church today!”

Meanwhile in the singles chart comedian Peter Kay has gone straight to number one with his charity single featuring seventies crooner

Tony Christie. The 1971 classic ‘(Is This The Way to) Amarillo?’

has raised thousands for Comic Relief. Kay mimes to the song in a comic video featuring the likes of Ronnie Corbett and Coronation

Street's Ken and Deirdre. Christie first released the song in

Nov 1971 when it reached number 18. It was revived by Kay when he used it at the start of his stand-up gigs and in his hit

TV series ‘Phoenix Nights’.

**Elvis

Presley** enters at Number three with ‘She's Not You’.

Meanwhile, Basement Jaxx enter at Number 8 with ’Oh My

Gosh’, while Jem is at Number 6. Gwen Stefani ft Eve is at Number 4 with ’Rich Girl’. Last week’s Number one ‘All About You’/ ‘You've Got A Friend’

by McFly falls to two. But that’s okay. Because the song that toppled it is for charity too.
