Plans tsunami dance aid event in Thailand

A line-up of DJs will play a fundraising all-nighter at Gecko on Bophut Beach, Thailand, to aid tsunami relief and promote the country's tourist industry.

A string of DJs hope to raise funds for the ongoing post-tsunami relief effort, and at the same time demonstrate that Thailand's tourist industry is still operational, with a special fundraising all-nighter in the Thai resort of Bophut next Wednesday night.

The event will take place at Gecko on Bophut Beach and will feature a string of DJs from around the world, including **Brandon

Block, Clive Henry (Peace Division), Gee Moore** (Bora Bora),

Hoxton Whores, Jo Mills (DC10), Lisa Loud, Luke Carr (Kakabu),

Nightmares on Wax, Oliver Lang (Bora Bora), Phat Phil Cooper,

Rob Roar (Max Linen), Shovell (M People), Smokin Jo (NDSM) and

Tim Sheridan (NDSM).

While the initial monies raised will, of course, help in the short term, organizers are keen to ensure the disaster does not destroy the tourist industry on which many of the effected areas depend on. A spokesman for the event told CMU: "This event is not only for raising money for the people directly affected by the disaster, but to raise awareness that Thailand is NOT a barren country. The east coast of the country is still a thriving tourist destination. People need to understand that Thailand needs tourism now more than ever. It is hoped that hosting an event such as the Tsunami Dance Aid will raise awareness of this situation".
