Playlouder deny ISP agreement

Playlouder have denied reports of a deal with a major UK ISP for its unlimited music broadband package, saying talks are ongoing but nothing is announced.

Playlouder have denied reports that they have reached an agreement with a major UK ISP to roll out their long proposed broadband package which would allow users to download unlimited amounts of music via P2P sites. The company have been developing the system, which tracks downloaded tracks and compensate rights holders accordingly, since 2003. Deals have already been made with EMI, SonyBMG and independent labels and the system is currently running in beta.

However, Playlouder's CEO and co-founder Paul Hitchman told Billboard: "Our model is quite well known, which is that we're looking to work in partnership with ISPs to offer a music service to their subscribers to be bundled with broadband access. Obviously in the light of all the interest in ISPs potentially working with music companies, I think that's led to a lot of the speculation. We've spoken to lots of ISPs and we continue to talk to ISPs and there continues to be interest in our model from ISPs. But we're not ready to announce any services yet".
