Press Gazette is no more

Press Gazette has been put into liquidation and all staff made redundant after plans for a newspaper-funded trust failed.

Trade magazine the Press Gazette is no more. The newspaper industry's trade mag was formally put into liquidation on Friday, and all its staff made redundant. As previously reported, the title's future had looked bleak ever since its owners, Matthew Freud and Piers Morgan, put the company into administration. Attempts to persuade owners of all the major newspaper companies to fund a trust which would take over ownership of the title were unsuccessful.

In a statement on the trade title's website, the team behind the mag said: "Press Gazette's editorial team would like to thank all of its readers over the past 41 years, and all of those who have given us support in the recent difficult weeks. The magazine's staff was informed tonight by managing director Simon Read that they were being made redundant with immediate effect."
