Queen to play Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday concert

Queen are pencilled in to perform at a concert marking Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday on 27 June next year, which will also raise awareness of AIDS in Africa.

Unfortunately the Queen couldn't be persuaded to retrieve her glockenspiel from the attic for Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday celebrations in London next year, but her namesake - Queen the band (or what's left of it) - are pencilled in as one of the many star names on the bill for a concert staged to mark the occasion. Taking place on 27 Jun, the concert will also be used to raise awareness of the continuing AIDS epidemic in Africa and Mandela's 46664 foundation, and can be expected to attract many more big music names, with previous Mandela concerts featuring the likes of Annie Lennox and Beyonce to name just two.
