R Kelly likely to stay top

Midweek figures suggest R Kelly will stay at number one, ahead of Girls Aloud, after Jive underestimated demand and some shops sold out of his single.

Girls Aloud's hopes for that second number one look like they may be dashed with midweek figures suggesting R Kelly will maintain his position at the top of the charts. However the girls are prepared with a good excuse - their label, Polydor, says rival label Jive underestimated the demand on the R Kelly release last week meaning many record shops sold out. Crucially this meant some R Kelly fans couldn't buy the single until this week, meaning the r 'n' b star is still outselling the popstars band. It's a good strategy - perhaps labels could do that whenever their release precedes that of a popstars band!
