Radiohead deny Cameron request

Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood deny that 'Fake Plastic Trees' was played at their KoKo set because David Cameron requested it, saying the setlist was their own choice.

Radiohead's Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood have denied claims that they included 'Fake Plastic Trees' in their recent KoKo set because it had been requested by Tory leader David Cameron. Cameron was in attendance at the Yorke/Greenwood show back on 1 May because [a] he's a big Radiohead fan, and [b] it was a Friends Of The Earth Benefit show and, as you all know, Dave is currently traveling aboard the green bandwagon.

Speaking to Sue Lawley on Radio 4's 'Desert Island Discs' this weekend, Cameron revealed that in his reply to an invite to attend the benefit event he wrote a PS requesting they play his favourite song 'Fake Plastic Trees' (one of Cam's Desert Island Discs, fyi), and when they did he assumed they had done so for him.

But a spokesman for Yorke and Greenwood yesterday told the Independent they had done no such thing, rather they chose which songs to perform based on which would work best with just the two of them playing. Spokesperson: "The set list was chosen to reflect the fact that it was just Thom and Jonny playing and the choice of songs was what they wanted to play - nothing to do with any special requests."
