Radiohead gigs and album update

Radiohead have confirmed three European festival dates this summer, and guitarist Ed O'Brien says the new album, provisionally due 16 June, has a more open and energetic sound.

Radiohead have confirmed they will be playing at three European music festivals this summer – the Hultsfred Festival in Sweden on 13 Jun and the Southside and Hurricane Festivals in Germany on 20 and 22 Jun. The NME reckon this makes it pretty likely they will headline Glastonbury (assuming the festival gets the go ahead) because the Glastonbury weekend (27-29 Jun) would fit into that schedule. The whole June festival circuit will fit in with the release of the new album, with has a provisional release date of 16 Jun.

Meanwhile the band’s Ed O' Brien has been talking about that new album, saying the atmosphere in the studio has been "fucking brilliant" compared to the frosty recording sessions for 'Kid A' and 'Amnesiac’, and describing the resulting songs as having "space and sunshine and energy”. He continued: "You know that time when bands begin to swagger, like when the Stones got in a grove from '68 to '73? In the last two years, I think we've done that. To me, this record feels like the culmination of the best bits of 'The Bends', 'OK Computer', 'Kid A' and 'Amnesiac'.”
