RIAA ordered to pay Tanya Andersen over £100k in legal fees

An Oregon federal court has ordered the RIAA to pay Tanya Andersen $108,000 in legal fees after a P2P case against her was dismissed, the highest such award in its P2P cases.

A federal court in Oregon has ordered the Recording Industry Association Of America to pay Tanya Andersen £108,000 to cover her legal fees in relation to an ultimately unsuccessful P2P lawsuit. As previously reported, the case against Andersen, accused of infringing copyrights by sharing unlicensed music online, was dismissed because of lack of evidence. The US trade body was ordered to pay her fees earlier this year, though the figure they had to pay - the highest award levied against the RIAA in all its P2P cases - was only finalised this week. The RIAA is yet to respond, but Andersen's lawyer told reporters: "This will assist in levelling the playing field in other cases".
