Rockers pay tribute to Harrison

5,200 fans watched McCartney, Starr, Clapton, Tom Petty and others pay tribute to George Harrison at the Albert Hall, a concert staged in aid of his Material World Charitable Foundation.

5,200 fans joined Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Jeff Lynne, Jools Holland and the crew from Monty Python to pay tribute to George Harrison on Friday – one year on from his death.

The Albert Hall show began with music from the Ravi Shankar Orchestra, conducted by Ravi's daughter Anouska, and introduced by 82 year old Ravi Shankar himself. Some comedy songs from Monty Python’s Terry Gillam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin (complete with a rendition of 'The Lumberjack Song') were then followed up by performances from Clapton, McCartney, Petty et al.

The show, which was staged in aid of Harrison’s Material World Charitable Foundation, was filmed for a forthcoming TV special.
