SonyBMG has confirmed producer Rick Rubin is joining its Columbia US division, bringing his American Recordings label, with his exact role still to be confirmed.

All those rumours that began back in March that legendary producer Rick Rubin was taking a job at SonyBMG's Columbia US division were true. The major confirmed Rubin was now on the Columbia exec team yesterday, adding that he would "form a dynamic and creative executive partnership" with Columbia chairman Steve Barnett. Exact details of Rubin's role are tbc. Though we do know Rubin will take his own label, American Recordings, to SonyBMG as part of the deal.
