Ryan Adams blames album delays on his label

Ryan Adams says his album 'Love Is Hell' is complete but Lost Highway is holding it back, while A&R head Frank Callari says it was never scheduled for March and is not yet finished.

It seems there may be a little uneasiness between Ryan Adams and his record label - Universal imprint Lost Highway. Writing on his website Adams reports his new album 'Love Is Hell' is complete and was originally due out in march, but that the label are proving a little inactive. He writes: "We don't know what to do with it... or should I say 'they' don't know what to do with it. I've heard adjectives like 'incredibly too depressing' and - 'this one's funny' - 'dark.' Also not your best stuff.''But Lost Highway A&R head Frank Callari told reporters: "It was never supposed to come out in March... Ryan wanted it to come out in March. He originally did some tracks in September, but then he started to rework some stuff. That isn't done yet. It's not on the release schedule. I'm not sure when it will be done."But Adams maintains that his label's lukewarm reaction to the new material is the problem: "When I originally mixed the album myself in NYC, they said it was too experimental and rough sounding... same people who love the White Stripes album. And now I think they just think it's too alternative rock or something. 'Too dark,' ha ha ha."
