Saga stations to become Smooth Radio

GMG Radio is rebranding its recently acquired Saga Radio stations as Smooth Radio, bringing the total number of Smooth stations to six.

As expected, GMG Radio will rebrand its recently acquired Saga Radio stations as Smooth Radio, meaning there will now be six Smooth Radio stations around the UK. GMG's two Jazz FM stations in Manchester and London rebranded as Smooth in 2004 and 2005 respectively. Saga stations in Scotland, East Midlands and West Midlands will now also become Smooth, while the licence Saga had won in the North East which it never got round to launching before selling its radio business will launch under the Smooth Radio banner. The existing Smooth stations will become 'Smooth Radio' rather than 'Smooth FM', presumably because frequency modulation is going out of fashion.
