Scottish commercial station hands back licence

Kingdom Radio Group has handed back the FM licence for River FM in West Lothian after failing to find a buyer, making it the second UK station to do so.

A radio station in West Lothian has become the second UK station ever to hand its licence back to OfCom. As previously reported, commercial radio company UKRD became the first radio company to ever give up a licence when last year they gave back the licence for a station in Stroud in protest at what it said was over restrictive OfCom rules for smaller stations. But the Kingdom Radio Group this week gave back the FM licence for West Lothian not out of protest, but because they couldn't find a buyer for their River FM outfit, which hadn't turned out to be a viable business for the commercial radio company. They bowed out with Nelly Furtado's 'All Good Things (Come To An End)' before closing down the station and its website.
