The Amsterdam based globally focused online music venture launched this time last year, Sellaband, has just announced it will release its first 'consumer funded' album in the UK.
As previously reported, Sellaband encourages users to 'invest' in new bands by donating at least $10 to help featured artists pay for studio time and release and album. Any one featured band is taken into the studio by the venture when $50,000 is committed. Those who invest get a free copy of the album plus a cut of any advertising revenues generated by the band's page of the Sellaband website.
The first band to reach the $50,000 figure is a London based "post trip hop" act called The Elements, who reached the target figure in "a mere six months". They have now recorded an album which will be made available via the Sellaband website.
The Elements release follows releases from US singer songwriter Cubworld and Dutch all-girl rock band Nemesea who both released albums funded by the Sellaband concept.
