Snow Patrol name Paul Wilson as new bassist

Snow Patrol have named Paul Wilson, formerly of Terra Diablo, as their new bassist following the split with Mark McLelland, and keyboardist Tom Simpson joins full time.

Following that acrimonious split with bassist and founder member

Mark McLelland, Snow Patrol have revealed the identity of their new bass player. The new member is Paul Wilson, formerly of

Glasgow band Terra Diablo. The band also confirmed that keyboardist

Tom Simpson, an occasional contributor, will now join the group on a full time basis.

In a statement the band said: "There has been much speculation about who will be joining us on the bass. Just like to say that for the most part you've all been right. Paul Wilson has joined the Patrol on bass. He is a multi-instrumentalist and will be a magnificent addition to the band and he's already been heavily involved in the new songs."

The band played their first gig with Wilson on Friday night at show to raise money for local charities in Dingle, co Kerry, preceding their US tour which starts this month.
