Soulja Boy criticised over slave trade comments

Soulja Boy has drawn criticism after thanking slave masters in an interview with Toure at BET Hip Hop, with bloggers responding to the transcript.

More pop politics, and Soulja Boy has drawn criticism after thanking American slave masters at an awards ceremony in Atlanta.

In an interview with former Rolling Stone journalist Toure at the BET Hip Hop last month, the 18 year old rapper was asked which historical or political figure he hated the most. When he was unable to come up with an answer, Toure told him that other musicians had said "Hitler, bin Laden, the slave masters..." This prompted Soulja to say: "Oh wait! Hold up! Shout out to the slave masters! Without them we'd still be in Africa. We wouldn't be here to get this ice and tattoos".

Since a full transcript of the interview was published on The Daily Beast, the rapper's comments have been criticised by many bloggers. Others, however, have dismissed the comments, saying that Soulja Boy is too young to know better.
