More Spector news. A month prior to the legendary producer’s arrest for murder last week Phil Spector admitted to a Telegraph journalist that he was "relatively insane." In a rare interview he told author Mick Brown: "I would say I'm probably relatively insane, to an extent. I take medication for schizophrenia, but I wouldn't say I'm schizophrenic. But I have a bipolar personality, which is strange. I'm my own worst enemy."
Despite occasional humorous observations – saying of rap music "it's like the 'c' got left off at the printers" — Spector came across as being generally unhappy with life: "People tell me they idolize me, want to be like me, but I tell them, 'Trust me, you don't want my life, because it hasn't been a very pleasant life.' I've been a very tortured soul. I have not been at peace with myself. I have not been happy."
He told Brown it was only due to the persuasive efforts of his daughter that he had agreed to come out of retirement to produce the new Starsailor album (apparently she dragged him to a Starsailor gig to convince him). Following that return to the studio he said was planning to work with both the Vines and Coldplay.
