Survey finds Britons tired of manufactured pop idols

A survey commissioned by Virgin Radio finds 67% of the public want manufactured music to stop, though the sample of record buyers is questioned given Virgin's playlist bans.

Fuller may need to find a new source to maintain his riches, because a new survey today claims more than two-thirds of Britons want to see an end to the TV production line of manufactured pop stars. The survey commissioned by Virgin Radio found that 63% of teenagers believe there are too many manufactured acts around, that 82% feel more support should be given to 'real music talent' and that 67% of the public want a halt to the procession of manufactured music. All that said, Virgin have recently banned Will Young, Gareth Gates et al from their playlists, so the survey of 1000 record buyers (all over 16) might not be a true representation on the teen pop market.
