The Darkness’s Justin Hawkins reveals festive single plans

Justin Hawkins tells the NME that The Darkness have a Christmas single due later this year, with a chorus about peaceful bells, and the band may target the Christmas number one.

Following the news yesterday that the yet-to-be-decided Pop Idol is the bookies favourite to get the Christmas number one, The Darkness's Justin Hawkins yesterday revealed details of his band's festive number, due for release later this year. The band are off to America soon so we might not hear from them for a while, but it looks like they could have their sights on the Christmas No.1, as Justin told us:

He told the NME: " The Christmas single looks to have a chorus that reads - 'Christmas time, don't let the bells end, just let them ring in peace.' That's moving for me. There's no shame in doing a Christmas single. It is a special period of time. I think it gets a bit desperate when you do Mother's Day songs, or Father's Day songs, but Christmas is different. Who doesn't like having an excuse to receive presents?"
