The Offspring to cover The Police on greatest hits album

The Offspring's greatest hits album, due early 2005, will include a Police cover and new tracks produced by Jerry Finn, according to frontman Dexter Holland.

The Offspring are to release their greatest hits album in early 2005 and it will feature new material including a Police cover. Frontman Dexter Holland told Rolling Stone: "I've been messing around with it in the car, like, 'Can I hit that?' We're not doing 'Roxanne'. That's really up there."

The band have also worked on some other new tracks with Morrissey producer Jerry Finn. On the need for new material on a greatest hits album Holland continued: "I've gone back and forth about it and just decided that, unfortunately, the way the world works now, if you really want to get people to hear about a greatest hits record, you need that new song. People think of greatest hits like, 'Oh, does that mean you're going into acting?' But I really want to put out another record next year. All the new songs feel pretty good."
