The View's Kyle Falconer fined £1000 for cocaine possession

The View's Kyle Falconer has been fined £1000 at Dundee Sheriffs' Court after admitting possession of cocaine, with the judge rejecting a discharge.

The View's Kyle Falconer was fined £1000 when he appeared at Dundee Sheriffs' Court last week to face those previously reported charges of cocaine possession. The singer, who is only nineteen, by the way, admitted possessing £150 worth of the drug when he was apprehended outside Abertay University's students' union when his band performed there last August.

Falconer's defence lawyer Billy Boyle explained to the court that he had been given the stash by naughty music industry types and had not taken any of the substance, and on that basis asked that his client be given an absolute discharge, saying that a conviction would make it "next to impossible" for Falconer to get a visa to visit and tour the US. The band have, as previously reported, already been forced to cancel one tour, seemingly because of the drugs charges. Boyle added that they have also been forced to turn down £1m for a jeans commercial and delay the US launch of their album 'Hats Off To The Buskers'.

But presiding sheriff Paul Arthurson said it was "simply not realistic" to issue the requested discharge, and told the singer: "If you are in the public eye you have certain responsibilities and I ask you to bear that in mind in future".
