TorrentSpy owners file for bankruptcy after $110 million copyright judgment

The owners of BitTorrent tracker TorrentSpy have filed for bankruptcy after being ordered to pay $110 million to the MPAA, and may appeal.

Unsurprisingly, the owners of Torrentspy, the BitTorrent tracker sued out of business by the Motion Picture Association Of America, and which was last week ordered to pay the film business $110 million in damages in relation to the copyright infringement they enabled, aint got no money. The now defunct service's owners, Valence Media, have filed for bankruptcy protection. Their attorney, Ira Rothkin, says they have "no appreciable assets" and accused the MPAA of pulling a "Hollywood publicity stunt" in pursuing the case to this point. That said, it may not all be over in a swift bankruptcy - Rothkin indicated his clients are considering an appeal.
