US copyright caucus adds Canada to dodgy countries list

The US Congressional International Anti-Piracy Caucus has added Canada to its list of problem countries, citing court rulings that P2P file sharing cannot be pursued under existing copyright law.

Add Canada to the list of countries with dodgy copyright practices. Because the US's Congressional International Anti-Piracy Caucus have.

America have added their neighbour to the list of countries causing problems for they US copyright industries - a list that more often includes countries like Russia and China where bootlegging is rife - because the Canadian courts have proved unhelpful in attempts to fight P2P file sharing. As previously reported, Canadian judges have generally concluded that under the country's existing copyright laws it isn't possible to take legal action against those who share unlicensed music on the internet. The courts have passed the buck to the politicians, who have been slow to review copyright legislation to clarify the file-sharing situation.

The Caucus said Canada had made its 'dodgy country' list because it has "failed to join the rest of its partners in the developed world in modernising its copyright laws to address digital challenges to copyright protection".
