The other day when Capital Radio announced it was renewing Johnny Vaughan's breakfast show contract we noted that the station had lost lots of listeners in the prime time slot since Vaughan took over from Chris Tarrant back in 2004, but at least, we said, he still had the most listened to breakfast show in London. Well, turns out he doesn't. Although Capital added 31,000 listeners to its breakfast show in the last quarter of 2006, making a total of 813,000, arch rival Jamie Theakston over at Heart 106.2 boosted his audience to 948,000, giving him quite a substantial lead. Capital also lost out to Heart in terms of market share for the first time in the last quarter, which aint good news. We know all this because the latest RAJAR radio listening figures are just out. We'll round them up for you proper tomorrow.
