Vodafone launch music download service

Vodafone is exclusively distributing Omnifone's MusicStation subscription service in the UK for £1.99 a week, aiming to win the mobile music market before the iPhone launches here.

Vodafone have announced they are launching a download store. Well, they are exclusively distributing the previously reported Omnifone MusicStation service in the UK.

As you might remember, the MusicStation service is a subscription based thing, offering users unlimited access to 100,000s of tracks for a weekly fee of £1.99. Vodaphone's plan is to launch MusicStation over here before Apple launch the iPhone in the UK, in a bid to win a chunk of the mobile music market before the mighty iTunes arrives to mobile over here.

Vodafone spokesman Tim Yates told Reuters: "I am sure the iPhone will have appeal but we think what we are offering here with [Omnifone] MusicStation is a very good, customer-centric, all-you-can-eat offer".
