Warner Music reports good financials as digital sales rise

Warner Music Group's latest quarterly report shows sales up 176 percent to $69 million, with digital revenues continuing to grow as a share of income.

The Warner Music Group enjoyed some good fortune in its most recent quarter, with sales up a massive 176 percent on the same quarter last year to $69 million. So well done them. This was all revealed in the major record company's latest financial report, which also made those above mentioned revelations about Eliot Spitzer and all his subpoenas.

Perhaps most interesting about the latest Warner figures is that they show a continued growth in digital revenues. Digital formats - so that's downloads, ringtones and all that kind of stuff - accounted for 7% of Warners' overall income in the last quarter. On the ever growing importance of digital sales, Warner boss Edgar Bronfman Jnr told reporters: "Our intense focus on and investment in the digital music business yielded dramatic growth in digital revenue, which was a major contributor to gains in total worldwide recorded music performance on a constant-currency basis."
