Weiland to head ex-G'n'R members' new band

Scott Weiland has been chosen to front the new band of Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, provided he sorts out drug and rehab problems, with Velvet Revolver a possible name.

Scott Weiland may have a number of issues with narcotics and the LAPD, but it seems ath the still has what it takes, as he has been chosen by ex-Guns N' Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum to head their new band - currently known as 'The Project'

Although the Stone Temple Pilot singer announced in mid-May that he was to front the band - the band said that no formal agreement had yet been reached, sources say that they want Weiland to sort his drug and rehab problems out.

Weiland has already recorded with the band: a cover of Pink Floyd's 'Money' for the new 'The Italian Job', and a new track 'Set Me Free' for 'The Hulk'. The latter - due for release 17 Jun - leaked onto the Internet and has already been getting radio play on WBCN in Boston.

Having been arrested for smack and coke possession last week, the band are trying to help the singer - proposing rehab, methadone treatment, 24-hour supervision and martial-arts programs.

Weiland had started work on his second solo album with producer Josh Abraham before starting up with the Project.

A name has not been chosen yet, but apparently Velvet Revolver is in the running. Nice.
