Zane suspended by Xfm

Xfm has suspended the Breakfast Show team, including Alex Zane, after he played a song about rape that the station judged distasteful, with Dave Berry standing in.

Alex Zane has been suspended from presenting the Xfm Breakfast Show after playing a song he wrote about rape on the air. 'I Won't Take No For An Answer' was written in the style of sixties artist Mike Sarne, a guy who recorded risqué songs that probably wouldn't be approved of today, including 'Come Outside', 'Dodgy Looking Bird' and 'Code Of Love'.

In a statement, the station said: "On Wednesday morning, the breakfast show broadcast an item that, in the view of station management, was distasteful and likely to cause offence. As a result, the breakfast team has been suspended, pending a formal disciplinary process. A full apology was broadcast on air at 7.20am on Thursday. We are sorry for any offence caused".

Dave Berry will stand in for Zane until 1 Sep.
