ADF performer turns down MBE

Pandit G of Asian Dub Foundation has reportedly refused an MBE, saying the award would highlight the wrong aspects of his work with Community Music and ADFED.

Pandit G of CMU favourites Asian Dub Foundation is reported to have refused an MBE. He was offered the award for ‘services to the music industry’ as chair of Community Music Ltd and ADFED, the educational wing of Asian Dub Foundation, both of whom promote new music in poor areas. But in an interview with NME he said he thought the award would highlight the wrong aspects of the work he does. Anyone under consideration for an award of this nature has the option to turn it down before the Queen announces an honours list. Pandit G said that if people wanted to support projects like Community Music the best thing they could do is donate funds.
