Best known as frontwoman of La Luz, Shana Cleveland has announced that she will release her new solo album ‘Manzanita’ in March.
Out now is first single ‘Faces In The Firelight’, a dreamy acoustic piece drenched in cello and keyboards. The track is written for her partner Will Sprott (of Shannon And The Clams) and their (then unborn) son.
“The song is about watching Will tend to a huge burn pile that was still going long after dark and realising that out there in the dark field he looked like the ultrasound image we had on our fridge”, she says. “I was thinking that the greatest act of love might be to wait for someone. To say, ‘I’ll be here whenever you’re done, whenever you’re ready’”.
Of the album as a whole, she adds: “The songs were all written while I was pregnant (side A) or shortly after my son’s birth in that weird everything-has-quietly-but-monumentally-shifted state (side B)”.
Sprott also appears on the album, playing keyboards, dulcimer, glockenspiel and harpsichord, while La Luz’s Abbey Blackwell plays bass and Olie Eshleman adds pedal steel guitar.
The album is set for release on 10 Mar. Watch the video for ‘Faces In The Firelight’ here:
