Approved: Wet Leg
By Andy Malt | Published on Thursday 17 June 2021
Newly signed to Domino, Wet Leg make a strong first impression with their debut single, ‘Chaise Longue’. Packed with innuendo and funny lines delivered in a detached deadpan fashion, its driving riffs and percussion propel the track forward, every now and then punching a catchy chorus into your face.
Every band needs an origin story, and Wet Leg’s is that the two members of the duo – Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers – decided to form a band while stuck at the top of a ferris wheel on the Isle Of Wight.
They are from the Isle Of Wight, so it’s plausible. I’m sure they have ferris wheels there. Having got off the fairground ride, they quickly self-released a single – now scrubbed from the history books/internet – that showed the early signs of the well-defined style that fills ‘Chaise Longue’ all the way into its corners.
With their debut single proper now out in the world, a hefty schedule of touring awaits – dates with Sports Team, Declan McKenna and Willie J Healey, as well as Latitude Festival, are all in the diary in the coming months.
