LadBaby on course for Christmas number one – with Boris Johnson tribute just outside the top five

LadBaby is still on course to score a third consecutive Christmas number one single this Friday, with a comfortable lead over Mariah Carey.
‘Don’t Stop Me Eatin’ is YouTubers Mark and Roxanne Hoyle’s third sausage roll-themed single. A surprise duet with Ronan Keating on an alternative version of the song has helped to boost their lead in the Christmas chart yet further in the last few days.
Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ recently went to number one in the UK for the first time since it was released in 1994. However, it looks like it will be denied the top spot and is currently sitting in second place. Behind Carey are ‘Last Christmas’ by Wham and Jess Glynne’s ‘This Christmas’.
Up from number ninteen at the beginning of the week to number six is ‘Boris Johnson Is A Fucking Cunt’ by The Kunts. The late entry to the Christmas chart race is this week’s most downloaded track and has risen up the chart fast. Number one may be a long shot now, but the 56 second song could still make the top five.
Of course, when it comes to announcing The Kunts’ final placing on Radio 1 on Christmas Day, we’re assuming the family-friendly version of the track will be played, which informs the world that “Boris Johnson is a sausage roll”. Yes, that’s right, you’d think by now that people would be tired of sausage roll-themed novelty singles, but it looks like this year we’re going to get two.
Justin Bieber’s new version of ‘Holy’, featuring the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir, is currently at number 35 – having dropped slightly down from its chart position earlier in the week. That’s a bit of a disappointment for what had been thought would be one of the big number one contenders. The good news (for Bieber, at least) is that Justin has three songs in the chart. Alongside his NHS collaboration, ‘Mistletoe’ is at number 34, and ‘Rockin Around The Christmas Tree’ is at number nine.
What of Ed Sheeran, though? While many thought that his surprise single, ‘Afterglow’ could cause a last minute upset at the top of the chart, the track is currently not even in the top 40. It’s just outside at 44.
