Artists perform to raise money for Artists Empowerment Coalition

Artists including Stevie Wonder, Roberta Flack and DMX performed in New York to benefit the newly formed Artists Empowerment Coalition, which campaigns for better artist-company relationships.

Artists from a number of different genres were on stage in New York on Monday night for the first of a series of benefit concerts for the newly formed Artists Empowerment Coalition. Hezekiah Walker, Najee, Montell Jordan, Naughty By Nature, Roberta Flack, Stevie Wonder, Faith Evans and DMX were among those performing. Something of an informal musicians union, the AEC is a not-for-profit coalition of recording and performing artists and music supporters which was formed to promote changes in the relationships between artists and the companies that market and distribute their creative work. The organisation came into being thanks to the campaigning efforts of the likes of Prince, DMX, Chaka Khan and law firm of L Londell McMillan.
