Barfly adds new Birmingham space

The MAMA Group has acquired the Sanctuary venue above its Birmingham Barfly, with both to be refurbished and reopened as a complex in September.

The MAMA Group confirmed on Friday that it is adding another venue to its Barfly network - the Sanctuary venue - which is above the current Barfly Birmingham set up. Both Sanctuary and the existing Birmingham Barfly will be refurbished, with the whole complex due to reopen in September with a 1500 capacity space, a 600 capacity space and two entry-level spaces with 150 and 300 capacities respectively.

Confirming the addition of the bigger Birmingham space, MAMA chiefs Adam Driscoll and Dean James said in a statement on Friday: "We are delighted to have enhanced our Birmingham presence with the acquisition of this landmark venue. The venue has been at the heart of the Birmingham music scene for many years and is a significant addition to our growing network of live music venues with exciting potential for further development".
