US royalties society BMI has announced it will recognise the Bee Gees as 'BMI Icons' at its annual Pop Awards, which take place in LA on 15 May. An "all-star musical tribute" to the Bee Gees will form the finale of the awards event, which celebrates the songwriters and publishers behind the top pop songs of the last twelve months.
Past winners of the BMI Icon prize, which aims to recognise songwriters who have had a "unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers", include Crosby, Stills & Nash, Paul Simon, Merle Haggard, Brian Wilson, James Brown, Carlos Santana and Dolly Parton.
