Channel 4 and EMAP might collaborate on digital radio bid

According to The Guardian, Channel 4 is considering partnering with EMAP to bid for OfCom's national digital radio network, which GCap is trying to block.

The Guardian says that Channel 4 is considering going into partnership with EMAP to bid for the new national digital radio network which OfCom is expected to auction off in 2007. EMAP, of course, are active players in the digital radio space, while Channel 4 bought a 51% stake in national digital station OneWord earlier this year as part of chief executive Andy Duncan's bid to expand his company's digital assets. It is unclear if any other partners would be involved in the EMAP/C4 bid, or what they would plan to do with the network if they won it.

As previously reported, radio group GCap is trying to stop OfCom from selling that national network at all, arguing that when they, as a major shareholder in Digital One, bought the existing national digital radio network they did so on the understanding it would be the only one.
