EMI boss says no to Warner merger plans

EMI chairman Eric Nicoli says a merger with Warner Music is not on the agenda, despite earlier talks and rumours that Bronfman Jnr may reopen them.

EMI boss Eric Nicoli was yesterday keen to stress a merger with Warner Music was not on his agenda. Speaking as he released his company's latest financial reports, Nicoli said of a merger: "It's absolutely not on our radar screen. We've demonstrated that we don't need to do a deal to be a strong business." EMI have considered a merger with Warner on a number of occasions, and were in serious talks last year before Bronfmann Jnr bought the major label off the Time Warner group. Rumours have been circulating from the Warner camp that Bronfmann is interested in reopening those earlier merger talks.
