EMI sign DRM free deals with others

EMI has signed DRM-free distribution deals with VirginMega in France and several Scandinavian services, offering higher-quality files.

EMI yesterday confirmed that not only will it be making its previously reported DRM free catalogue of digital music available by the previously reported new Amazon MP3 download store (when it launches later this year), but that it has also signed DRM-free distribution deals with VirginMega in France and several Scandinavian services, including Telenor, Musicbrigade, Inprodicon Basepoint Media, Aspiro and Paragallo. Like its deal with iTunes, the DRM free music available via other platforms will also come in a higher sound quality format, helping to justify charging a higher price for it - though, that said, it's not clear what price the other services plan to charge for the DRM free major label content.
