Over in the US no surprises either at the Amercian Music Awards – it was Eminem’s night - again - if only he was British he would no doubt have been nominated in every category at the Brits too. At the AMAs Slim Shady took best male pop, best map hip hop, best pop album and best hip hop album.
The show was predictably expletive filled as its hosts – the family Osbourne – took to the stage. TV network ABC had to get the bleeper out for the Ozzy’s opening greeting!
The AMA nominations are based on radio airplay and retail sales data – the winners are then selected by a poll of 20,000 record buyers – with the Fan Award, which went to Nelly, voted for via the award’s website. Although essentially punter voted, rather than industry led, the AMA’s do give some indication of what will happen at next month’s Grammys – expect Slim Shady to have another good night.
