Nashville based EverGreen Copyright have announced they have acquired the music catalogue of MC Hammer for $2.7 million off the rapper's bankruptcy estate (Mr Hammer filed for bankruptcy way back in 1996 of course) giving them ownership of his early hits, including 'U Can't Touch This'.
EverGreen now have some 40,000 copyrights, which is pretty impressive since US industry veterans Joel A. Katz, David K. Schulhof, and Richard Perna only set it up six months ago. Schulhof told reporters this week: "We made tremendous progress in only six months. The MC Hammer catalog brings some of the best selling and most popular rap songs of all time to Evergreen's catalog. We anticipate that many songs in the MC Hammer catalog will emerge as a perfect fit for licensing in movies, television shows, and corporate advertising".
Talking of MC Hammer - he is making music again, and recently released a new album called 'Look3X' via iTunes, with a physical release expected sometime soon, in the US at least.
