Madonna, Amy Winehouse, Arctic Monkeys and The Feeling were among the winners at those always prestigious Ivor Novello Awards for songwriting which took place in London yesterday.
Madonna took the International Hit Of The Year for her song 'Sorry', which she co-penned with Mr Jacques Lu Cont himself Stuart Price, while Winehouse won the Best Contemporary Song for her critically acclaimed hit 'Rehab'. Arctic Monkeys' frontman Alex Turner won the Album Award for his band's debut long player 'Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not', while all five members of The Feeling were named Songwriters Of The Year.
The Most Performed Work Award went to Elton John and Scissor Sisters' Jason Sellards and Scott Hoffman (or Jake Shears and Babydaddy if you prefer) for the Scissor Sisters track 'I Don't Feel Like Dancin', while John Reid and Jorgen Elofsson won the Best Selling UK Single Award for the song they wrote for X Factor winner Leona Lewis, 'A Moment Like This'.
In the lifetime achievement categories, Quincy Jones was presented with a Special International Award, Fatboy Slim/Norman Cook won an Outstanding Contribution prize, Yusuf Islam/Cat Stevens was presented with an Outstanding Song Collection Award, while Peter Gabriel won the actual Lifetime Achievement category.
Collecting his award, Cook said: "I'm not a traditional songwriter, I'm not really a songwriter at all. I take bits of other people's songs and adapt songs. To everyone whose songs I've re-mixed, sampled or stolen or been in a band with, I would like to say thank you".
Amy Winehouse, meanwhile, used her speech to make reference to her tabloid reputation, joking: "Thank you all very much, I didn't even have time to get drunk, I've only been here about 15 minutes".
Which is all lovely. And for those of you who prefer your award reporting in list form (or those of you out there in publisher land wondering why you're not getting your credits), here's the winners list in full...
