JASRAC reach interim agreement with iTunes Japan

Japanese collecting society JASRAC has reached an interim royalty payment deal with iTunes Japan, which had not yet paid it because of incompatible databases.

Our good friends at JASRAC, that society representing Japanese songwriters and publishers, has reached an interim royalties payment agreement with iTunes Japan. JASRAC has so far received no payment from iTunes, which launched in Japan in August 2005, because Apple's database system isn't compatible with that operated by JASRAC. It's not clear whether those databases are any where near talking to each other yet, but the one off payment should keep the collecting society sweet for the time being. Billboard cite an informed source as saying the interim payment is in the region of $2 million.
