Kaiser Chiefs favourites for Mercury Prize

William Hill has shortened Kaiser Chiefs to 9/4 favourites for the Mercury Prize, while CMU says it prefers Coldplay.

Well, the Kaiser Chiefs have confirmed their position as favourites to win the Mercury Prize, as William Hill have cut the odds on the band winning the award from 4/1 to 9/4. A spokesman for the bookmakers said "Punters are piling in on the Kaiser Chiefs to win this year's award and these type of punts are often telling when it comes to the announcement. But my money is still on Anthony & The Johnsons - a 10/1 outsider."

Now, we love Kaiser Chiefs. We think they're great. But we don't think they should get the Mercury Prize because we think there are better written and more innovative albums on the list (MIA and The Go! Team in particular). And it should come as no surprise to any of you by now that we here at CMU lobbying hard for Coldplay. Ahem.
