London publisher amend Dre lawsuit

Minder Music have amended their copyright suit against Dr Dre, Eminem, Interscope and Universal Music, adding a jury trial request over 'Let's Get High'.

London music publishers Minder Music have amended an existing copyright infringement suit against Dr Dre, Eminem, Interscope Records, and Universal Music adding a request for a jury trial. The suit related to the Dr. Dre track 'Let's Get High', co-written by Eminem and featured on the Dr Dre 2001 album. Minder claim the song used segments of the Minder-owned 1980 tune 'Backstrokin' without their permission, and they want a $3.5 million share of the profits from the multi-million selling album. Dre's attorney, Howard King, who told reporters "they're seeking a ridiculous amount of money," argues the track makes use of a "very common" bass riff which is not subject to copyright protection.”
